Super Bowl Party Photo Backdrop

Are you ready for some football!? Me neither...but I am starting to prepare. I wanted to do something fun and different this year for our annual Super Bowl soiree so I created a cool referee striped photo backdrop. This was super simple to make, budget friendly and not to mention very cool! I also made some fun props to really get our guests in the party... I mean Super Bowl spirit.

All you need to get started is:

  • Black and white ribbon - I used ribbon that was 4" wide and shiny. I cut it into strips of about 4'

  • Scissors

  • Pushpins

**If you don't want pushpins in your wall (totally understandable) you will also need a wood dowel about 3' long will work and some

Aileen's Original Tacky Glue (this stuff is the best for any project) you can get it on Amazon or any local craft store.

To start tie a piece of twine around the dowel that way you can hang it later!

Simply dot some glue drops along the edge of the ribbon.

Then roll the ribbon once around the wood dowel. Hold it still for a few moments to let the glue set and then give it a minute or two to dry before you go on to the next strip of ribbon.

Repeat these steps alternating between the black and white ribbon. Be sure to overlap each strip that way the banner lays flat and straight. Let the finished product hang out on a flat surface for at least a half hour before displaying.

Get the camera ready : )

If you don't mind a few small push pin holes, your next steps start here...

After you cut the ribbon into strips pick a spot with some good lighting and enough space to fit a few friends that can move around and take pictures. I hung mine over a doorway that way I could put the push pins in the top of the molding to hide any hole marks. Plus, it was a perfect height!

You will want to slightly overlap each strip that way they lay flat and straight.

I felt like the top looked a little frayed and messy so I added some burlap ribbon and these adorable pre-cut banner sheets by Recollections, I found mine at Michaels Craft Store. They come perforated and hole punched so just tear them off and hang them from the push pins! I opted for green print for a pop of color and to keep with the football theme.

Now it's time to act silly!

P.S. I made the props pictured above from some very basic materials. The mustache (top left) and crown (bottom right) are made of felt and cardboard. Just cut both materials into the desired shape and glue together. You want to use cardboard so the prop is not flimsy. Then glue onto a skewer stick (sharp edge up). Next up, the glasses pictured above (top right and below) they are shaped from pipe cleaners. The party hat, you guessed it pictured (bottom right) is a sheet from the pre-cut banner sheets I mentioned above.

Even my sweet pup Shredder, pictured below got involved! Warning he is pretty cute!

I cannot wait for the party and to see all the funny and probably some embarrassing moments that we capture. If you make your own photo backdrop (any style) please tag me in your pictures on Facebook, Instagram or email them to me at bepartyful@gmail.com.

Stay Partyful people.
