Spring Refresh - No-Sew Door Mat

Spring is right around the corner - 4 days to be exact (who's counting)! The spring cleaning starts and you have a strong desire to inject some bright color and fresh pieces into your home. This DIY no-sew doormat is so simple to make, inexpensive and is sure to satisfy that spring craving.

You will need:

Okay! Let's get started...

Spread out your fabric and lay the mat on top, where you’d like the pattern to line up. Cut the fabric so that it is one inch larger than the mat on all sides. If your fabric tends to fray at the edges, add an extra inch of fabric on each side so you can create a hem.

If your rubber mat has a smooth side and a textured side (mine does), apply the spray adhesive to the smooth side of the mat. You could also spray adhesive on the wrong side (underside) of the fabric.

Lay the fabric on the mat so the sticky sides are touching. Smooth the fabric down to remove any air bubbles. Give it a minute to dry before you flip it over.

Spray adhesive along the edges of the fabric and the rubber mat. Starting with the long sides, fold the fabric edges up over the mat. If you added two inches of fabric, fold the fabric on top of itself first to create a hem and then fold over the mat. Fold the excess fabric under at the corners at an angle for a finished look. Add extra spray adhesive if needed.

Flip the mat over and let the adhesive drive for about 30 minutes... Looks so pretty already!

Apply 3-4 coats of polyurethane, allowing 2 hours of drying time between each coat. The edges of the mat may curl a bit as they dry. Add some small weights to the corner to keep the mat nice and flat, if needed.

Put your finished mat by the front door (inside or outside), in the kitchen or anywhere else you want. My Goldendoodle, Shredder couldn't wait to get his paws on it!

The best part of this project is that when you get sick of it in the fall you can take the fabric off and update it with new threads! Enjoy your new mat.

Happy spring everyone!
